Most drainage problems are geometry problems. A drain laid at the wrong fall will move water for a while and then stop, and by the time it backs up the slab is down and the fix is expensive. Falls get set with a level and checked before anything is covered.
On renovation and extension work the existing drain rarely suits the new layout. Repositioning it properly means cutting in a new branch, re-grading the run, and connecting back to the boundary trap so the whole system still vents and flows the way it was designed to.
Every run is water tested before backfill. If it does not hold, it gets pulled up while it is still cheap to pull up.
